Too Many Cooks In The Kitchen; How to Stop Spoiling the Broth

June 2017 Newsletter

We’re all trying to balance so much! Often times, it’s not just the business, home life and kids to keep organized, and on a schedule, often times we’re having to be responsible for the collective consciousness for the entire household. Consider how often you’re asked, “Ok, so what’s next?”. Or “You should have just asked me to do that and I would have gladly helped you out.”

So many women I serve, and some men too, will cite extreme exhaustion. Not only for the actual tasks they perform at the office or at home, but  because they also feel like the CEO of operations. This unexpected job description often surprises us out of nowhere. Who put me in charge anyway? Where was that written? How do I exit this role without the whole damn ship sinking?

How did the job of  knowing what’s next fall on me? I’d never asked my husband, “What’s next?” in over a dozen years of marriage. How is it that as a reasonably intelligent woman I always felt my corpus callosum log-jammed every time? Perhaps my lesson was to learn how to engage with my own instincts and activities, leaving intellectual management to other individuals. That, actually would make sense.

In those moments, I definitely know I could use help. The first thing would be to take the task-manager role off my shoulders. When was this bestowed on me? Please supply a two page answer single spaced while I dress this roast of bison and finish prepping the potatoes. Perhaps you’ve lived this too.

While the offer to help is, in itself, an act of generosity, it can annoy the living daylights out of a Mom in a Sepia state. How many CEO’s of multinational companies can think on the spot of the detailed activities to be executed by a worker who barges into his office while he’s on the phone and also in the midst of forecasting the budget for the next annum? You see it, right? It doesn’t happen. At the very least, you make an appointment or see a more junior manager. Perhaps your spouse might ask one of the kids. Ah, not a bad idea, a kid will always tell you precisely what to do to serve them.

I recall feeling totally burnt out in the early stages of my marriage. In fact, I had the feeling that if one more person asked me what they could do, I might run my laser eyes clear through their guts while launching enough swear words at them to burn off their eyebrows. They’d grow back, right?!

I once recall trying to prepare supper while nursing an infant on the breast, with a toddler pulling all the pots and pans out on the floor, stirring a pot of rice pasta with the phone in one ear speaking to the guy rescheduling to come service the dishwasher who I had stayed home all day waiting for. It was a Friday.

At that moment, my husband walks into the kitchen having just arrived home from the office, and wants to know what he can do. The first answer that popped up to the fore is, “no clue” and then, “isn’t it obvious?” or to silently turn back and offer a tear of frustration into the pasta. This gesture alone can create a ton of animosity and then spouses wonder why dinner conversation is a little stunted and the weekly sex is dwindling.

I spent years stuffing my feelings down and taking Sepia regularly until my breast finally swelled with a 1.5 inch tumour. Among this, and other dynamics, I’d say this phenomenon cost us the marriage. It wasn’t until these very same issues started to crop up in my second marriage that I began to “get it”. The whole family plumbed solutions to help relieve me of the burden of doer and decision-maker. At the time, I was running a household, half a business, part of the farm, a kids’ camp (in the summer), writing a book and doing postgraduate research. Brutal, I know!

The summation of this post is that we finally did solve it with some creative problem solving. It took a team effort, but you can read that article here.

The Functional Nature of a Healing Reaction

This month, we’re focused on helping you to understand, more deeply, the functional nature of a healing reaction. It is not a side effect, or symptoms of a chronic disease matrix, it tells a story of resolution and healing. It is the revealed inner anatomy for how, and why, you created the resonance for this physical suffering at the level of your consciousness in the first place! It’s the opportunity to know the nature of your disease pattern, the core etiology, so you don’t orchestrate the same act of beguiling oscillation twice.

I suffered the most amazing healing reactions when I first came to Heilkunst Medicine. They were so stellar, I wrote a whole book about them, “The Path To Cure” which you can listen to for FREE at

It is fair to say that I wasn’t half the woman that I was meant to be and so when I started to take the homeopathic remedies on the law of cure, like cures like, it was very much like the feeling of an elastic band snapping wildly back into form, a semblance of health and grace that I’d never been.

Every individual is downloaded with a blueprint for cure. DaVinci actually illustrated this best through his Vitruvian Man. If we’ve been weighed down with blockages to our cure with timeline traumas of a physical and emotional nature and a host of genetic miasms, not only is it difficult to self-actualize, but it can feel like you’re pushing a physical burden up a steep gravel incline. It’s tough to get a healthy purchase.

Since I’d been so far off track for so long, my own personal blueprint was in shambles. I’d been suffering symptoms of fibromyalgia, psoriasis, sinus infections, migraines and chronic fatigue. When I started Heilkunst treatment my life force reacted like we just hit all 10 Six Flags roller coaster theme parks. The ride was pretty wild.

My essential blueprint felt like it had a hidden agenda and was going to take my current physical and psychic diseased self to my healthy place as expediently as possible, “do not stop at Go and do not collect $200!” Clearly I was part of a secret agenda that I didn’t seem to know about and the roller coaster had left the station with me on it … numb and blindfolded. To say the least, it we quite destabilizing.

The problem was, it was like being whipsawed around the corners and over the hills. My own practitioner suggested that I use the olfactory method, as per Dr. Hahnemann the founder of Homeopathic principles, and just sniff my remedies in the bottle for a number of days and then in a couple of weeks, I could start taking them orally again. Dr. Hahnemann had to do the same with little kids, some elderly patients and those super sensitive, like me.

In my case, it also had to do with my lack of ontic (short for ontological organization) which is a fancy word used to refer to our sense of self, autonomy, sovereignty and discernment. Since I was so weak, physically and etherically (memory, creativity, resourcefulness, artistry) I’d never properly downloaded the sense of my own self or my true desire function (astral body). My “I” was in a state of carnage and mostly cobbled together with masking tape and some ideas of what others had expected of me.

I was so full of Cancer (breast tumor and migraines), Medorrhinum (Sinusitis) and Syphilis (insidious self-destructive tendencies and Fibromyalgia) that I could only guess at an essential self. I know that I was a very challenging patient, but I was scared of the power in those little bottles and paper remedies! However, in a matter of a few short months, something so primal, so juicy, so rarified, began to download in me after each disease matrix that we destroyed.

My health and well-being was somehow being bolstered. I was more creative, full of mischief, energy and verve. I started to see colors and shapes in a 3D way I never imagined prior. It was like suddenly being able to see! I began to journal and write poetry like I did when I was much younger. Over time, I began to be less angry and irritable with my kids and husband. I found that I could pause and take a breath before reacting, to determine the consequences which caused me to be less hysterical and reactive.

I was suddenly writing reams of prose. Chapters to books were crystallizing in my mind on a weekly basis. I was asked to speak at the Canadian Homeopathic Association on my son’s burgeoning exodus from the Autism Spectrum . I began to contribute my musings regularly to the Heilkunst Journal and then to other publications in the field of health in both Canada and the U.S. I began to fall in love with my life and decided to study Heilkunst. By this time, my Autistic son was no longer in the spectrum. With my increasing health, I could actually begin to focus on the things I might like to do and be! I got off the roller coaster for disease and the huge healing reactions abated.

That was almost 20 years ago now. I just had a patient, last month, report that his initial healing reaction was really big. I pulled back on his dropper bottles, suggesting he just sniff them instead and also hold off on the timeline rx until things stabilized. I had the thought that obviously the Universe has some big plans for this fellow too and it isn’t in the business of serving his diseases anymore. Like me, he may be on the giddy up plan!

Note: Those individuals who have more subtle healing reactions are not an indication that they’re not also curing or finding their path to cure. As mentioned above, I was really sick and far off my own, personal intended path. You just may be closer to yours, even in ill health, than I was.

Big Hearted Love,

Ally and Jeff

An Introduction to the Psora Miasm

Following the cycle of chronic miasms in terms of the seasons of the year, we now come back around to the original chronic miasm which is linked to the Autumnal Equinox. Psora, which comes from the same root word as ‘psoriasis’, is the beginning of treating the complete cycle of eight chronic miasms. There are eight, as there are two per season. This first miasm in treatment corresponds to the oldest, or original chronic miasm in human history. As such, you can imagine that it’s symptoms relate back to an original loss of health, and the beginnings of a weakened immune system.

The symptom picture of Psora is related to our most superficial organs or functions. The skin is primarily affected, with all forms of rashes or general conditions such as eczema. Other outer aspects of our immune system are affected, as we see in cases of simple head colds or coughs — irritation of the mucous membranes and other first defences of the immune system are included here.

All Psora symptoms are related fundamentally to an underlying condition of dehydration and dryness at all levels — dryness of our cells and their basic functions impaired; also dryness of our minds, in terms of our modern predominance of intellect over feeling. Also, the fundamental state of mind of Psora relates to this theme of dryness, in that the theme is of ‘lack’ — lack of energy, lack of time, lack of money, or lack of love, etc. If you observe the frantic energy of animals in the fall as they are gathering their food stores for the winter, you’ll see an example of this feeling of lack, and behaviour based on fear for future survival.

Many issues presenting at the clinic level have at least some root back into this miasm. Many complaints of a lack of energy, as well as constant catching of colds will be related. Seasonal allergies related to the fall are very much rooted in this miasm. In fact, my own lifelong suffering of hay fever was completely eliminated when I was treated for this miasm. Physically, the patient suffering from Psora will tend to be quite chilly, and have a hard time warming up. The classic expression of this in the old materia medicas referrered to those who wear their fur hats in the middle of the summer. Along with the skin symptoms comes much itchiness, especially driving the patient mad when they get into bed. With or without itchiness, there may still be a lot of restless sleep.

Mentally and emotionally, Psora is characterized by much anxiety and restlessness. More deeply, a feeling of having been forsaken may become apparent.

Homeopathic Mercury

This blog is part of a series; its original title was Homeopathic Mercury [Heilkunst Basics : University, 2nd Year (Mercurius)]

There are a number of therapeutic approaches in Heilkunst designed to address the problem of the false ego. Today’s exploration will be of the use of the homeopathic remedy mercurius in this capacity.

Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known on the planet, and it is quite alarming to consider the implications for many people who have had it drilled into their oral cavity as part of their dental amalgams (fillings). It is the byproduct of many industrial processes, and is a common toxin found at measurable levels in our air, water, and food supply. It is a component of many common commercial products, including adhesives, antiseptics, batteries, commercial cereals, cosmetics, fabric softeners, paper products, and seafoods (especially tuna and swordfish), just to name a few.

Its toxic effects centre primarily in the brain and the nervous system, and produce many disease conditions related to the mental and emotional levels. Given our current discussion on the false ego, it makes sense that mercurius would be a remedy quite helpful in treatment, as the primary locus of the ontic organization is in the nervous system, and likewise, the false ego’s activity works at this same level. Mercury appears on the sixth row of the periodic table, which contains all the homeopathic remedies primarily concerned with the issue of autonomy.

Remember that the law of similars will generally work on the basis of such a match between a given disease process, and a toxin or poison which produces a similar effect. The negative influence which mercury has on the nervous system, including symptoms of twitches, or other more significant impairments to our basic co-ordination are also related to the fundamental negative blockage which the false ego creates in our system.

The mythological god, Mercury, ruled over commerce as well as thieves, which is a fascinating connection to think of in terms of our mediation on the function of the false ego, and how it works through the world on manipulative terms. Making “a deal with the devil” is something which the false ego, and not the true self, will engage in.

Mercurius is characteristically very elusive, and difficult to connect with in terms of a natural social relationship. At the extreme end of this would be the total withdrawal, and non-communication status of an autistic individual, who has often been very much affected by some form of mercury exposure.

In general, mercurius is a remedy used for a broad variety of issues related to the identity (as in true versus false), particularly where it is either weak or confused. There is a great deal of changeability or instability in this disease state, as would make sense in terms of the false ego which is always adapting opportunistically to its surrounding environment, rather than being guided more surely by an inner principle of self.

Emotionally, mercurius is highly sensitive, and will perceive slights or criticisms which may not exist in an objective sense. For this reason, amongst others, it is very difficult to form a true relationship with someone in a mercurius state, or at least one which goes past the outer surface.

Syphilis Has Arrived On The Coat-Tails of Summer

The Summer Solstice marks the day of the most daylight, as it ushers in the heart of all the things which summer means to everyone. Especially in climates in the further Northern latitudes, these precious weeks of summer sun and heat are cherished, as people pack in as much of their favourite outdoor activities that they can. Our moods reach the height of their expansive capacity, while we metabolize sunlight to be stored as vitamin D to take us through the winter.

There is an underbelly to all of this, which is represented within the essence of the syphilis miasm, which is also ushered into more acute expression, beginning about the time of the Solstice. If you think in terms of the cycle of gardening season, the massive growth of the spring has already peaked, and the hot, dry days of summer now threaten the possibility of drought, decay, and death. Likewise, people within the “concrete jungle” of the city can start to express high levels of irritability, and lashing out even to the point of “road rage” or other random acts of violence. If you keep this image in mind, you’ll begin to understand the inner dynamics of anyone with a genetic inheritance of this miasm (which we all have to some degree).

Destruction, decay, and processes of things breaking down or falling apart all describe the essential characteristics of this miasm at all levels (physical, mental, emotional). Physical conditions including any form of auto-immune disorder, as well as psychological conditions of depression, despair, even to the point of suicide fill out some of the details. The emotional acts of blaming and criticizing are further indicators of this energy. A feeling that life is meaningless, and that “there is no point” form part of the more extreme version of this mental and emotional state. The expression “Life’s a bitch, and then you die” portrays the sentiment of this feeling.

In less extreme form, you’ll see peculiar symptoms, such as ritualistic or compulsive behaviours, or even fleeting thoughts of doing strange things, such as wondering “what would happen if I put my fingers into the electrical socket?” Compulsive thoughts such as “I wonder if I left the stove on at home?” can fill the mind of the patient driven by the energy of this disease. Insanity is feared, or may eventually be succumbed to.

In its earlier phases, syphilis can be quite charming, and capable of drawing others into their world. In more extreme forms, this is part of the pattern of the formation of cults around charismatic leaders, who gradually lead them to do either strange or very destructive acts, including mass suicide. On an individual basis, this same dynamic within syphilis, is behind all forms of addictions, and other self-destructive behaviours which at some level involve forms of self-deception or charming oneself into being OK with “just one more”.

Physical symptoms of syphilis include ulceration in any form. Deep conditions down to the bone, such as extreme growing pains in children, bone cancers, or leukemia emerge at the later phases of this disease. Flesh-eating disease, AIDS, and other physical manifestations of the self-destructive pattern of this remedy are increasing, as syphilis becomes a more and more dominant medical phenomenon in our modern context. Years of use of antibiotics, and such, have suppressed the primary infectious form of syphilis, and converted it into this inheritable genetic form I’m describing here. There are many artistic portrayals of this energy, including the brilliantly acted role of The Joker in Batman – The Dark Knight, which I wrote about in my blog series on fluoride.

Homeopathic Constitutional Types : Natrum Muriaticum

The first phenotype I would like to introduce to you is Natrum Muriaticum. This remedy is made from the chemical compound sodium choride, which is common table salt. The two separate elements (sodium and chloride) are poisons, but become inert together in this compound. Sodium chloride, and all other forms of salt are examples of crystalization. This forms a first image for its use as a homeopathic remedy, in terms of all biological or psychological processes which condense items (such as cell structures or emotional memories) to be more easily retained, or “held on to”. Lot’s wife, in the Bible, illustrates this to us with an artistic image of being turned into a pillar of salt when looking back and trying to live in the past.
Natrum Muriaticum is extremely retentive, and the key theme of the remedy revolves around a loss of trust. Nat-m holds on to the past, and has a very hard time of letting go of anything, whether past emotions of hurt, or objects infused with the feeling of sentimentality. This is the foundational disease state of mind for anyone who falls into the category of hoarders. Even the physiology of the cancer cell illustrates this, as the normal healthy balance of potassium being predominant inside the cell, and sodium surrounding the outside of the cell is reversed, taking the function back to a much older state of evolution related to creatures of the sea. Such a cell retains an excessive, unhealthy amount of fluid, illustrating this deeper theme of failure to let go.
Nat-m is characteristically over-sensitive, and is very easily offended or hurt, although they will generally hold it in. They can be extremely reserved, never allowing anyone to see their inner emotional world or true feelings in life. All of this is a function of a tremendous wall or emotional defence designed to protect them from repeating the hurts of the past. It is the feeling of avoiding getting into any relationship, other than one where they feel absolutely certain that they will be “safe” and protected, which is usually in a form of co-dependency in the Nat-m state. William W. Purkey was probably speaking to someone in a Nat-m state when he famously advised:

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
Nat-m is overly serious, and tends to support one or another cause of social justice, which is really a projection of their own attempt to defend themselves from ever being hurt again by another. Grand political initiatives such as Socialism illustrate this principle extended out on a larger scale. They tend to suffer their grief in silence, not able to let go in front of anyone, with the exception of a single romantic partner or close friend who has been brought inside their inner “safe” zone. Even then, it is usually not even their true core self that is fully opened up, but still an outer layer of their persona.

A characteristic bad dream for Nat-m is of their house being robbed, as this represents an unwelcome outsider breaking in, and gaining access to their most valued, private, inner world. Even in waking life, you’ll find that they may be overly cautious about their house security system, as well as all kinds of efforts taken to ensure their annonymity and privacy in every aspect of their life. The privacy craze in terms of internet policies is fascinating to view from the point of view of the energy of this remedy state.
The physical symptoms of Nat-m include headaches (lots of congestion of the energy of uncried tears), as well as sinus infections originating at the site of the tear ducts. They are very sensitive to noise. Salt is a very strong craving in this state. The skin may be prone to dryness, and even significant cracks. They suffer from constipation, which is a combination of the dryness of this remedy, and the difficulty in letting go. They can often suffer insomnia, which is yet another form of having difficulty “letting go” of their daytime consciousness, into the uncontrolled world of sleep and dreams. Conversely, they may need to sleep excessively, as a mechanism for avoiding the intimacy and demand for emotional involvement of waking life. They may be very retentive of water, in parallel with holding onto all of their emotional hurts.
In treatment, it may be very difficult for the practitioner to get to really know the inner content of the patient, and can take quite a while for a relationship of trust to be formed. The idea of treatment itself, particularly on the emotional axis, will be perceived as a threat, and these patients will often be the ones who only bring a physical symptom in for treatment, but solidly block any attempt to explore the emotional realm. Thankfully, the remedy works to soften these patients up, who eventually start to open up, and allow their emotions as well as their treatment to flow.

After taking Nat-m, do you need some help in letting go, and letting the tears flow? Try:

Examining the Adverse Effects of Fluoride (part one)

The issue of forcing populations of people to consume unmeasured amounts of a toxic drug is, of course, abhorrent to our modern sensibilities. The most shocking thing, however, is that this is still happening in many municipalities across Canada and the U.S. today. I’m speaking of the addition of Hydrofluorosilic Acid (aka ‘fluoride’) to the municipal drinking water supply in many part of Canada and the U.S., as well as some parts of Europe. Even if such fluoride treatments offered the benefits that are claimed (which have been thoroughly disproven, by the way), there are many medical and legal reasons why it is a very poor idea to dose an entire population with a drug without the informed consent of each and every recipient.

Throughout this blog series, bear in mind that I’ll often interchange the terms “fluoride” with “hydrofluorosilic acid”, which are not exactly the same thing. The latter term is the industrial toxic by-product of the aluminum industry, which is what is added to the water supply in many municipalities. The former term is the natural form, which we actually receive from a natural diet, and is a healthy part of our bones. Part of how the issue of fluoride has been obscured is by the intentional confusion between these two terms, and taking the safety of the natural element fluoride, and insinuating that its industrial counter-part is equally safe, which it is not. I’ll often use the term “fluoride” throughout, but you’ll be able to tell by the context when I’m referring to “hydrofluorosilic acid”, the toxic form.

I will write about the range of these issues in a series of blog posts, and today I’ll start with one aspect of examining the toxicity of these fluoride treatments, as illustrated by the “proving” symptoms of fluoric acid in the homeopathic materia medica. A proving, as you may know, is the methodology by which a substance is ingested by a group of healthy individuals in order to meticulously observe and record its composite symptom picture, which can then be used to correctly identify when that given medicine can be prescribed curatively on the basis of the law of similars. An unintentional use of such proving data is that we can use it to illustrate the toxic effects of a given substance as used in the homeopathic materia medica, such as Mercurius, or Cannabis Indica. Such proving data illustrates both the state of mind, as well as the toxic physical symptoms of a disease which can be caused by a toxic substance.

Some of the key proving symptoms of fluoric acid are:

  • A state of mind which is :
    • predominantly materialistic, and preoccupied with sexual thoughts. [This may explain a big part of our pornographic culture].
    • Hurried.
    • Indifferent or disconnected.
  • Over-heated; desire for cool drinks or cool bathing.
  • Hair falling out
  • Discoloured or breaking teeth.
  • Teeth prone to cavitation.
  • Impotence.
  • Varicose veins.
  • Distortion or weakness of the nails.
  • Brittle bones.

So, this is certainly not a toxin that we would want to take on an individual basis, let alone to give to a whole population. In the following blog posts, I’ll continue to explore the various medical and legal issues of this bizarre practice of mass medication.

Do you know if there’s fluoride added in your municipality, and if so, how have you addressed it personally, as well as politically?

The Basics of Physiology : “Radial” and “Spherical”

The study of physiology within Medical Heilkunst is considerably different from that of conventional medicine which begins and ends with a biochemical model (not surprising given the biochemical model of the drugs used). Rather than a biochemical model, Heilkunst instead studies physiology in terms of the ‘powers’, ‘forces’, and ‘energies’ which govern all of our functions with a much more dynamic understanding of how things emerge as an interplay of a variety of elements in motions, rather than the static model of biochemistry.

As a brief introduction to one of these dynamic relationships (and one which you can easily start to apply to your own everyday thought process), is the polarity between “radial” and “spherical” forces. I’ve touched briefly on this concept when I wrote about the Sulphur constitution, but here I have a little more space to explore it further.

The radial force is one which has a strong outward direction (from the center to the periphery), and is expansive by nature. The spherical force is the polar opposite, and is more of a ‘containing’ force which holds something within a boundary.

Every physiological process illustrates some meeting of a radial with a spherical force; and in any disease process, an unusual balance between the two is struck. For example, in a migraine, the radial forces of the metabolic system have penetrated too deeply into the head system, which is normally more spherical by nature. The pulsating or throbbing of the migraine is largely a misplaced function from the metabolic pole. The opposite example would be stomach ulcers, where an excessive spherical force descends from the head, and inverts the normal function of the metabolic system.

I can also view the same kinds of polarities within emotional or psychological process of a patient — someone who lives within too many self-imposed limitations (due to fears or moral restrictions) will come across with a very restrained or spherical personality. This is in contrast to the excessively radial personality who moves forward through their life with such a blind momentum, that they are almost incapable of any sort of learning from experience or self-reflection.

In terms of my prescription of homeopathic remedies, I’ve been incorporating some use of the ‘Fibonacci’ series of potencies in certain cases to unlock deep or old disease patterns. In terms of the radial/spherical polarity, this series is interesting, as it is based on a mathematical sequence which defines a perfect spiral motion, as is found through many processes in nature. A spiral is formed from a kind of dance between a radial and spherical force which creates a continuous expansive motion.
