Why Do I Need a Chlorophyll Supplement?

A Little Bit of Personal Background

Twenty years ago, I was suffering the ill-effects of mercury poisoning. I had a mouth full of mercury fillings. I suffered candida (yeast binds to mercury), causing me to crave sugar and chocolate like crazy. As a kid, my mother had the allopathic doctor put me on many rounds of Nystatin and Monostat that did nothing for my suffering. For years, the bouts of vaginal infections and pain became more virulent until there was permanent scarring. Coupled with the rounds of antibiotics for recurrent throat and kidney infections, my immune function was destroyed.

When I came to my own Heilkunst Practitioner, I was sick – really sick. I was exhausted, suffering extreme bouts of bladder, kidney, sinus, and throat infections. I was passing clumps of green and yellow yeast from my body, which was alarming. In addition, I was in bed several days a month, watching Oprah, with chronic fatigue, psoriasis, and muscle fatigue so bad, I could barely lift my head from the pillow. I didn’t know if I was dying, or simply wanted to die.

My Heilkünstler began to clear the traumas of drugs sequentially from my  timeline using homeopathic principles, while supporting my system with dropper bottles to combat the yeast. I was prescribed probiotics and chlorella. The latter, I was told, binds to both the mercury and the yeast and pulls it from the body through the liver, and out through the bowels.

If not done properly, it can literally burn the urogenital system, and leave scarring. Detoxing from heavy metals should never be done solo. It can be very dangerous if you don’t have the medical background to support yourself or others if the process derails. This is not a DIY project.

Why Have You Prescribed a Chlorophyll Supplement For Me?

We’re all exposed to mercury. It is everywhere, from adhesives like tape to hemorrhoid creams. Here’s a list of some of the common things exposing you to mercury everyday:

  • antiques
  • appliances
  • automotive parts
  • barometers
  • batteries
  • dental amalgam
  • electronics
  • jewelry
  • light bulbs
  • cookware
  • medical pharmaceuticals
  • skin cream
  • sporting equipment
  • thermometers
  • thermostats
  • vaccines
  • fish (sushi)

If you have mercury fillings in your mouth, had a vaccine, consumed fish, been around batteries, antiques, thermometers or adhesives, you’ve got mercury in your body, off gassing up to your brain. If you need more proof, here’s a youtube video from the University of Calgary examining this phenomenon and its ill-effects.

Mercury has become one of the greatest contributors of symptoms of our modern times. Like chemical toxicity, heavy metal poisoning can have some very deleterious effects to both your physical and mental state of mind. Review Dr. Henry Clarke’s enormous laundry list of symptoms in his Materia Medica to see if you qualify for a mercury detox just as I did.

Here’s the ‘tl;dr’ version if you’re wanting the shorter version of what symptoms occur from mercury, having built up in your system over time:

  • fatigue
  • digestive stress (difficulty utilizing fats or assimilating your nutrients)
  • aching joints
  • yeast build up (candida)
  • depression
  • brain fog
  • impaired sugar regulation
  • menstrual issues
  • infertility
  • miscarriage
  • pre-eclampsia
  • hypertension
  • premature births
  • infants rejecting the mother’s breast milk
  • brain damage
  • kidney issues
  • central nervous system issues

Additionally, if you’ve grown up in a mining town or near cement kilns, you could be especially loaded from mercury exposure. We’ve cleared lots of folks exposed to coal-fired power plants, smoke stacks belching mercury particles that rained down on the community where they grew up, as well as kids damaged by their vaccines.

No doubt you’ve heard that fish contains mercury. I address this for myself with regular use of homeopathic remedies. Larger fish like tuna, swordfish, shark, and mackerel can have 10,000 times the levels of mercury (merc.) than the surrounding environment. About 75% of mercury poisoning comes from the fish we eat.

Dental amalgams, as mentioned, are the other major factor for our suffering population. Those composites in your mouth are about 50 percent mercury and the rest are zinc, copper, tin, silver, and other metals. Mercury fillings actually originated during the war of 1812 when soldiers were suffering a severe toothache from cavities with nerves exposed. They sought out this pliable metal to pack in the tooth in the field so that the individual could get back to fighting.

You’d think someone, in the last 200 years, would take a moment and actually test to see if the results of such practices are actually safe? It’s a bizarre fact that dentists receive the mercury composite in containers marked, “Hazardous Material” at their dental office. Also, any amalgam has to be disposed off with great precautions as hazardous waste. Think about it – you paid to have that toxic substance put in your mouth, and even if removed by a biological dentist, you are STILL paying the price for the cellular residue affecting your health.

What Is Chlorella?

Chlorella is a food derived from single-cell freshwater algae, from pristine lakes. It’s been termed a near perfect food and many of us can tout its full range of astounding benefits including:

  • promoting efficient detoxification by binding to toxins and carrying them safely out of your body (as mentioned above)
  • chlorophyll helps you process more oxygen
  • cleansing your blood and promoting the growth and repair of your tissues
  • helps to rid your body of heavy metal toxins that cause premature aging (consider how much pollution we’re exposed to)

As per Dr. Mercola, “Mice fed methylmercury were given chlorella, and the amount of methylmercury excreted in their urine and feces was approximately twice the amount excreted by mice not treated with chlorella. Methylmercury is a neurotoxic compound widely used in industrial applications. It accumulates in fish, which has led to widespread advisories against fish consumption by pregnant women.”

A study in The Journal of Toxicological Sciences reports:
“These results suggest that the intake of [chlorella] may induce the excretion of Hg [mercury] both in feces and urine … The effect of [chlorella] on the tissue mercury accumulation may become evident in a long-term experiment.”

As mentioned, chlorella pulls the mercury and yeast out through the liver, and then out through the bowels and lesser elimination channels. As well as protecting your organs, it also helps to promote cleansing of the blood. You want this metabolic waste dragged out of the body and away from the tissues. It’s a powerful detoxifier and should be used under the counsel of a knowledgeable physician.

Some additional benefits of taking chlorella include:

  • cleansing the blood and liver and promoting elimination
  • promotes oxygen processing
  • helps to obtain optimum blood pressure
  • supports the removal of molds from your body
  • helps with the repair of damaged tissue
  • assists in neutralizing unhealthy exposure to pollution

Beyond healthy detoxification, other benefits of taking chlorella for your health include:

  • fresh breath from the inside out
  • reducing risk of cancer
  • normalizing blood pressure and blood sugar
  • neutralizing acidity and promoting better alkalinity in your pH
  • increased focus and energy levels
  • improving digestion and elimination
  • improving your immune function

Next, let’s discuss which brands of chlorella are best for you to take. We’ve sussed out brands based on overall quality, purity, and potency.

Which Chlorophyll Supplement Is Best For Me?

Just a quick run-down in case you’ve skipped to this section. Chlorophyll is what makes all life on earth possible. The air we breathe comes from the plant-world and chlorophyll is a key element.

You may have also heard the term ‘chlorella’ to describe chlorophyll, however, they are different. Chlorella is a type of algae and chlorophyll is the substance plants use, along with sunlight, to make their own food. Chlorella is rich in chlorophyll and is used in many ‘greens’ products to promote health.

You may not be aware that this green plant liquid is almost identical to your human blood with just one exception; magnesium is the central element to chlorophyll whereas your blood’s key element is iron.

Going back to your grade 10 biology class, perhaps you recall that chlorophyll takes in carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide from the outer environment, processing it and subsequently releasing it as oxygen. In our bodies, chlorophyll can act much the same way, sussing out islets of pollution, heavy metals, and toxicity, converting it into oxygen and healthy hemoglobin. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory processes help with healing inner and outer wounds.

Personally, I prefer a liquid chlorophyll supplement myself. Derived from the alfalfa plant, it is easily absorbable and can be used with kids. When my son was treated for autism (ASD) mercury issues from thimerosal poisoning due to vaccines, he took the chlorophyll flavored with mint with little fuss. Getting a gel cap into him would not have happened.

Some more sensitive patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or c-difficile prefer the anti-spasmodic gel caps as it contains magnesium, so their colons don’t spasm painfully during elimination.

As a heads up, be sure to note that your stool may turn a bright green during the detox process. Also, stool may become soft while the “dirty blood” dumps the toxins from your bloodstream. If you apply liquid chlorophyll topically to skin issues, it can help with wounds and infections, including acne.

I use Nature’s Sunshine Chlorophyll that was recommended to me. I’ve been reading all evening on a lot of your articles and finished with this one on mercury poisoning. I would like to hear from you as you said one should have a knowledgeable doctor which I don’t have. My doctor would say no if she knew I was taking this supplement. I would like to set up an appointment with you if that is possible. These articles are so well written . I applaud and thank-you.

Hi Tony, You can take chlorophyll while you still have amalgams, however, you will have to keep taking it to get any of the desired detoxification effects because the merc. amalgams will continue to off-gas. Also, go easy as the detox process can be uncomfortable. Best to consider having them removed by a biological dentist asap.
