Self-Education For Excellence
“This post is from the SEPTEMBER 2024 newsletter – click here to read it.”
This month we’re talking about parenting, letting go, and championing self-education practices for your child’s health and autonomy. Jeff and I were pioneers when it came to fostering volitional learning in our kids. We received a lot of concern and criticism for a more project based approach to education, as my kids were honored with the capacity to dictate their own curriculum.
Why we shove a pile of information into uninterested kids during a span of 20-25 years was proving deleterious to many kids I’d served over the last 25 years. Both Jeff and I saw our patients’ kids struggle with self-worth, stress from allopathic curricula, and trying to fit into a world that was morphing super rapidly.
Our philosophy was to foster resourcefulness, sovereignty, and motivated life long learners. Thankfully, those are in fact the results we have observed in our adult children, who are nimble and self-guided in their chosen fields of expertise. I could not be more proud. They’ve very adroitly garnered their own resources to fashion lives that they both love and feel fulfilled by.
So have a gander at the articles attached and see what resonates for you and your child so that you can also potentially champion healthy, labile, life-long learners too. No doubt, it will also foster in you the most fulfilling feeling as you observe them unfold naturally, with their sense of independence and self-gleaned knowledge wholly intact.
