On The Tide Of Letting Go

My weight had crept up. I’d been in New Brunswick over the summer. My daughter and I went camping and enjoyed blueberry tea biscuits with clotted cream while reading by the fire.  It’s a tradition. Well, can I even call it that after just 3 years? Then Sussex Creamery had ice cream from my childhood without any additives … except to my waistline. Lol! Then, there were all those birthday parties with chocolate cake and boiled icing. Brutal! I was not feeling proud. No, not one bit.

I got back to Mexico with 15 additional pounds on my frame.  Even though I was pissed at myself, I recognized that I was going through some very big changes in my life and that ‘letting go’ wasn’t just going to happen on the physical level. I decided a few weeks ago to do an aggressive parasite cleanse (the root for many cravings, especially for sugar). That aspect of the protocol took about 4 days. And no, there’s no point in me telling you what I used because the products are unique to Mexico. At your next follow-up, though, I can happily advise you accordingly based on where you live.

Then I started a four day fast and went into a full liver / gall-bladder flush while drinking a ton of water and herbal teas.  While I dislike the flu-like effects of this part of the protocol, I got hundreds of gallstones and chaff out of my alimentary canal, on a tide of magnesium sulphate, olive oil, and grapefruit. No more marbles kinking my hose, baby! I also dropped 12 lbs. That was the jump start that I needed. All my cravings were eliminated, my metabolism started burning fat efficiently again, I stopped having headaches, and I no longer needed the volume of calories I was consuming prior. Yay!

I’ve followed this protocol dozens of times before, but this time, it felt especially thorough. I think it’s because I was emotionally letting go on a large scale, the fasting helps on just water and tea, and I headed to the beach in Puerta Vallarta for 3 weeks solo. I love swimming in the ocean, soaking up the bountiful sunlight with a good book in hand, and walking for hours in the early morning when it’s cooler. I’m actually staying at the bottom of a mountain just above a magnificently cool river where I do daily cold plunges. Awesome! I even forget to eat in this landscape as it’s truly my happy place!

So this will be my landscape for the next 2.5 months. It may seem funny, but December is my greatest downtime of the year and while most folks are loading up on turkey, ham, cocktails, and shortbread cookies, I’m reading, fasting, going for hikes, and swimming. This year I’ll be in Merida on my own, celebrating solstice and minimizing the ‘ol merri-making in favour of more internal work as I learn to be a more solo adventurer going forward.

I’ve penned this article, above, about fitness, wholeness, and being in nature over the holidays. For me, being in touch with my own nature (resting, reading, walking, and photographing) is what Christmas means to me. I wish you all the joy, love, nurturing, and self-care that you can muster over these challenging times.  May the light of whatever you celebrate warm your heart and nurture your soul.

Love,

Ally
