Are flu shots safe?

Common side-effects of the flu shot:

Severe reactions include:

  • Guillain-Barré syndrome (auto-immune attack)

Contra-indications:

  • Allergy to egg
  • Previous reaction to the shot
  • Individuals with known sensitivity to thimerosol
  • During an acute illness, including fever
  • During an acute phase of a neurological disorder

The flu shot has not been tested for safety during pregnancy, yet it is now
being recommended to pregnant women.

Flu shot ingredients and additives include:

  • Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
  • Phenol also known as carbolic acid (this is used as a disinfectant, dye)
  • Formaldehyde a known cancer causing agent
  • Aluminum which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease and seizures also cancer producing in laboratory mice (it is used as an additive to promote antibody response)
  • Thimerosal (used as a disinfectant and preservative) can result in brain injury and autoimmune disease
  • Neomycin
  • Streptomycin (used as antibiotic) has caused allergic reaction in some people
  • Chick embryo, or other animal proteins, which potentially carry undetected animal viruses into the vaccine
